Academics

Learn deeply. Think independently. Communicate clearly.

Newbridge provides a structured academic environment grounded in the British Columbia curriculum and enriched by inquiry, problem solving, communication and meaningful application.

Our Academic Approach

We want students to build strong foundational knowledge while learning how to:

  1. 01Ask good questions
  2. 02Explain their thinking
  3. 03Make connections
  4. 04Solve unfamiliar problems
  5. 05Communicate ideas clearly
  6. 06Reflect on their own learning

Academic growth should lead toward increasing independence.

Administrative Class Groups

Students learn in mixed-grade groups. Download the weekly timetable for each grade.

01

English Language Arts

Strong literacy opens the door to every subject.

Students develop reading, writing, speaking and listening through increasingly rich and challenging learning experiences.

We emphasize comprehension, vocabulary, written expression, communication and the ability to think critically about information and ideas.

Mandarin Language Arts

Mandarin is an important part of the Newbridge learning experience.

Students develop listening, speaking, reading and writing while building greater understanding of the cultures and communities connected to the language.

Consistent exposure helps language become increasingly natural and useful.

Mathematics

Mathematics is more than calculation.

Students are encouraged to understand concepts, identify patterns, reason mathematically and apply strategies to unfamiliar problems.

Our goal is to develop both competence and confidence.

04

Science

Science begins with curiosity.

Students learn to observe, predict, investigate, experiment, collect evidence and reconsider their ideas.

Hands-on and inquiry-based experiences help students understand not simply what happens, but why.

05

Social Studies

Students explore people, communities, histories, cultures, rights and responsibilities.

They learn to consider different perspectives and understand how local experiences connect with larger social and global contexts.

Arts

Creative learning develops imagination, expression and confidence.

Visual art, music, drama and other creative experiences provide students with different ways to interpret ideas and communicate who they are.

Communication & Public Speaking

Being able to communicate clearly is a lifelong skill.

Students are encouraged to share ideas, make presentations, participate in discussions and become increasingly comfortable speaking in front of others.

Student presenting to class

Academics should prepare students for more than the next grade.

They should prepare students to keep learning.
